The French go for Dijon mustard, an altogether darker, tastier and more versatile ingredient. Add a spoonful or two to a salad dressing, a sauce, or a dip to create a tangy seasoning bursting with flavour! Dijon mustard enhances a sandwich too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fleur de Sel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly everybody has salt in their pantry, but fleur de sel is very different from run-of-the-mill table salt. Crunchier than fine sea salt, fleur de sel is a \u201cfinishing salt\u201d, sprinkled on food just before serving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where to find it? You can source something similar from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/selsaintlaurent.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sel Saint-Laurent<\/a>, the first company in Quebec to produce salt flakes from the sea. Harvested from the Upper North Shore region of the St. Lawrence River, this refined, crunchy salt can be used in the same manner as fleur de sel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cr\u00e8me Fra\u00eeche<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To thicken a sauce, vinaigrette or stew, the French love to add a large spoonful of fresh cream. Cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche can also be used as a topping for a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/espace4saisons.com\/en\/cest-quoi-recette-reconfortante\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fruit salad or a chocolate cake<\/a>, as well as the \u201csecret\u201d ingredient for creating the perfect quiche or omelette!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Herbes de Provence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>French dishes give off wonderful aromas, thanks to the liberal use of fresh and\/or dried herbs. One of the most popular blends is probably the famous Herbes de Provence. You can buy the mix, ready-made, at the grocery store&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allrecipes.com\/recipe\/223272\/herbs-de-provence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">or put one together yourself<\/a>. Herbs from your vegetable garden\u2014thyme, oregano, rosemary, savory\u2014can be dried and added to soups, vinaigrettes, marinades, etc.<strong>Beurre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Butter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Preferably salted butter! The French love butter and they slather it on baguettes and sandwiches. Take the popular jambon-beurre. Basically, it\u2019s just a baguette sliced open, spread with butter and slices of ham\u2026 Simple as that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These five ingredients are by no means an exhaustive list.
